Your Dentures Don’t Fit? You Have Options
Comment 0

If your dentures no longer fit comfortably, you’re not alone. Changes in your jawbone, gum tissue, and facial structure are natural over time, especially after tooth loss. The good news? There are several options that can restore your comfort and confidence.

The simplest solution is often a professional adjustment. We can make minor tweaks to your dentures’ fit, bite, and comfort. These adjustments address pressure points, improve stability, and enhance your ability to eat and speak. Many fit issues can be resolved with a quick office visit.

If your dentures have loosened, a reline may be necessary. During this procedure, we add material to the tissue side of your dentures to create a better fit against your gums. There are three types: soft inoffice relines (temporary, lasting 3-6 months), hard inoffice relines (lasting a few years), and lab relines (more permanent and accurate). Relines are more affordable than new dentures and can dramatically improve comfort, but they cannot restore worn, chipped, or stained teeth.

Sometimes new dentures are the best option, especially if your current pair is old, damaged, or significantly worn.  Modern dentures are more natural-looking and functional than ever before. While this is a larger investment, new dentures can provide superior esthetics, fit, stability, and longevity.

Some patients cannot adapt to a removable denture or cannot chew properly with them. If your dentures continue to cause problems, we encourage you to set up a free consultation to discuss implant-supported dentures or dental implants. These options offer superior stability and prevent further bone loss, though they require a larger initial investment.

Don’t settle for uncomfortable dentures. Schedule an appointment with our office to discuss which option is best for your situation. Whether it’s a simple adjustment, reline, or new dentures, taking action will improve your quality of life, allowing you to eat, speak, and smile with confidence once again.
